Both men and women face various health issues throughout their life. However, there are a few more common health issues for women as compared to men. Let’s take a look at them:
Heart Disease
Heart disease causes one in every four deaths among women. High cholesterol, high blood pressure, and smoking are some of the factors contributing to heart disease.
Cancer
Breast and cervical cancers are the two most common cancers affecting women. Detecting these cancers at an early stage is important to keep women healthy. Most women die due to these cancers in low to middle-income countries as these countries lack screening, prevention, and treatment facilities.
Gynecological Health
Additional symptoms during menstruation may indicate health issues. Vaginal issues also indicate certain problems such as reproductive tract cancer or sexually transmitted disease. Make sure you get them checked if left untreated as they can lead to kidney failure or infertility.
Pregnancy Issues
If a woman has pre-existing health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and depression, it can be threatening for the mother and child during pregnancy. Fortunately, obstetricians can treat both common and rare health issues that occur during pregnancy.
HIV
Women face the wrath of HIV infections more than men. A lot of many women are still not able to protect themselves against sexually transmitted HIV and are not able to get the treatment they require. This further leaves them vulnerable to tuberculosis, another leading cause of death in low-income countries.
Mental Health
Many pieces of evidence show that women are more prone to depression, anxiety and somatic conditions as compared to men. Depression is one of the leading problems among women and it eventually leads to suicide. It is important to address the mental issues of women and give them the confidence to seek professional help.
Alzheimer’s disease
This is a degenerative brain disorder that leads to female deaths. People living with this condition are mostly women. Alzheimer’s starts with forgetfulness and confusion but it can lead to irreversible mental impairment.
Diabetes
Diabetes is a serious women health issue. Type 2 diabetes is more common in women, but the good news is that it is preventable. In order to reduce the risk, make sure you live a healthy lifestyle, exercise and have your blood sugar levels checked regularly.
Pneumonia and Influenza
Influenza is known as the flu. It is a contagious lung disease caused by a virus. Pneumonia, on the other hand, is an infection of the lungs. Vaccines help in reducing the risk of both conditions.
Kidney Disease
In cases of kidney disease, the kidneys stop doing their job and allow waste to build up in the blood which results in a lot of female deaths. High blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease are some of the reasons for kidney disease.
